/1402/2003 Archived Entry: "Friday afternoon"

It's Friday afternoon and I really can't be bothered. But them, neither can anyone else, so that's okay.

I got a cd of Neil Gaiman's Two Plays for Voices, which are audio plays of a couple of his short stories. I listened to the first one - Snow Glass Apples as I walked to work this morning (have I mentioned how much I love my MP3 player?) and it's rather marvellous. It's a re-telling of Snow White from the point of view of the queen. And, in this version, Snow White is not a delicate, innocent, sweet little girl. The story never comes out and says what she is - although it is made extremely obvious - but she has totally white skin (as of someone who never goes out in the sunlight...) and blood red lips... It's rather a chilling little tale, but beautifully done.

The other one is Murder Mysteries, a tale of murder in heaven, which has been adapted into a film, but hasn't yet got a company to make it. (Have a look here for, well, not much more info than this really, except for the name of the person who adapted it. Which is David Goyer, who also wrote Blade, Blade 2 and Dark City, as well as writing some really good comic books - he co-wrote part of Starman and also JSA - although for some reason C&G blocks this site, so I can't look at it...)

I also discovered a very nice website, which has lots of very nice Dave McKean artwork, even if it is a bit small. Have a look, it's rather lovely.
