In this section you will find the three parts of my Captain UK story. This story was written as a spin-off from a series of stories entitled 'The Crusaders' that my good friend Neil Gow wrote as part of the MV1 fan-fiction project, which I got involved in when Neil asked me to write some short pieces for the first Crusaders Annual (it's all comics-speak). After that I decided that I would turn my hand to a piece exploring the character of Captain UK.
I chose Captain UK for several reasons. Firstly, because she has almost no history and so I didn't need to do a lot of tedious research. Marvel Comics history is not my favourite playground. Secondly, because she was created by Alan Moore. This whole thing is sort of my homage to the work of Mr. Moore. I tried to write it in a more intelligent style than a lot of fan-fic (and a lot of comics) is written. I wanted to focus more on the characters and their motivations rather than on violence. Of course, there is a certain amount of violence in the story, but I have, I think, kept it to a minimum.
Captain UK first appeared as a character in the Alan Moore written Captain Britain series that written in various Marvel UK comics in the early '80's. She was a counterpart for Captain Britain from an alternate earth that was then destroyed. She had a very small part and then faded into obscurity, that is until Marvel US re-printed them a few years back. That's the problem with being a famous writer - people keep re-cycling your stuff. A crime that I am equally guilty of, I admit. Anyway, Neil came onto the MV1 project and created The Crusaders, a British super-team that included Captain Britain. Who promptly got killed. At this point, Neil re-introduced Captain UK AKA Linda McQuillan.
My story - Captain UK: Body And Soul - happens before all of this. Linda is still on her original planet and knows nothing of alternate worlds or the impending destruction of her own. She is working with a team called the Lawful Union of Britain - a mixture of Alan Moore created characters and my own.
The story is in three parts:
Although the Annual which precedes this story is also on the site linked to earlier on this page, I have also archived it on The Golden Journey. To read it, click here
